Welcome to Hauraki Plains College: More Than A School
Hauraki Plains College (HPC) is a vibrant rural school in Ngatea, serving over 900 students from Year 9 to Year 13. We are more than just a place of learning; we are a community dedicated to ensuring that every student is learning ready, life ready, work ready, and world ready.
You Belong Here
The heart of our school is the belief that every student belongs here. We foster a sense of belonging through our "River Group" system, where every student is paired with a River Guide - a mentor, supporter, and champion who stays with them for their entire five-year journey at the college.
Our Values
Our culture is guided by three core values that define how we interact with ourselves, each other, and our environment:
- Rangatiratanga (Our Purpose): We empower our students to be their best selves, work hard, and take a lead in their own learning.
- Manaakitanga (Our People): We believe that people are what matter most. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. We lift each other up, show kindness, and ensure no one walks through tough times alone.
- Kaitiakitanga (Our Place): We take pride in our kura, looking after our environment and facilities for those who will follow us.
Why We Are "More Than A School"
We live by the Four Es, which drive our strategic priorities and student outcomes:
- Each for All (Quisque pro omnibus): We work hard individually to make our community stronger.
- Excellence is our Tradition: We maintain high expectations and a "no excuses" culture, consistently achieving strong NCEA results across all levels.
- Every Student is Supported: We take a "one student at a time" approach, offering personalised pathways to ensure every learner experiences success.
- Endless Opportunities: We provide a vast range of academic, sporting, cultural, and leadership experiences—from our Services Academy and Hospitality Trades Academy to local and international cultural exchanges.
Our Commitment
We are deeply committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, working in partnership with iwi, hapū, and whānau to sustain Te Ao Māori and ensure equitable outcomes for all Māori students. By providing a well-resourced and supportive environment, we prepare our young people to seek new horizons and contribute meaningfully to the world.
